Hello, my name is Cody. I am a 20-year-old Métisse creator from Winnipeg, Manitoba and a student at the University of Manitoba. Sewing has always been a part of my life and I love the creative freedom it offers.

I learned to sew from many different place such as my grandmother, school, and plenty of trial and error on my own. Today, I really enjoy using these skills to create pieces that combine European and Indigenous design elements, along with traditional Métisse elements in order to make something new and unique. To tell the story of the Métisse.

I also enjoy learning languages and incorporating that into my work. Currently, I’m learning Métchif-Frawnsay which is my heritage language and something I’m really passionate about incorporating in my work. I am also studying ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐍᐏᐣ (Y-dialect Cree).

“We must cherish our inheritance. We must preserve our nationality for the youth of our future. The story should be written down to pass on.”
